Gwena Kay Tibbits Gwena Kay Tibbits has been engaged in the practice of family law since 1982. She received her undergraduate education at the University of Montevallo, Montevallo, Alabama, a small state-run university, receiving her degree in 1971. Following that, Ms. Tibbits worked for the federal government for a number of years. After receiving her law degree from the Catholic University of America, Ms. Tibbits began a practice in all areas of civil litigation, with an emphasis on family law. She is active with both the Alexandria and Fairfax Bar Associations, and with programs that assist the Fairfax Circuit Court in settlement resolution of family law cases and other types of civil cases. She practices in both Virginia and the District of Columbia. Douglas A. Steinberg Douglas Steinberg has been practicing law since 1995, after receiving his law degree from the College of William and Mary. He served in a circuit court clerkship in Williamsburg, Virginia for one year while in law school. Mr. Steinberg handles both family law cases and criminal cases. He is active in the Northern Virginia Young Lawyers Association and Alexandria Bar Association. Mr. Steinberg has extensive trial experience in the federal court for the Eastern District of Virginia. How We Practice Family Law Our practice philosophy at the Law Offices of Gwena Kay Tibbits is to always prepare for litigation, but always work toward settlement of issues between parties. We believe that if parties seek to cooperate and work things out between themselves, they are both better served than having a judge decide. However, we will aggressively advocate for our clients in Court whenever necessary. A great deal of time is indeed spent in court because of the complexity of many issues, and because of the emotionally-charged nature of the cases. While we are located in the City of Alexandria, we represent clients in all of Northern Virginia and D.C. We practice in the State and federal courts, both local and appellate levels.
