Question: My husband who passed away last year has a son who is now 11 years old. It has always been a question as to whether or not the boy is really my deceased husband's son. The mother collects Social Security Death Benefits for the boy. Can it be proven whether or not my deceased husband is the father or not? There is most likely hospital records with his blood type. How would the testing be done and does the boy need to know it's being done. I don't want to hurt him. He's innocent, it's the mother I know to be pretty deceptive. Just wondering because if proven my husband were not the father, would Benefits be taken away. Thanks for your help. >

Question: I HAVE READ SEVERAL TIMES THAT EYE COLOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PATERNITY. IF THIS IS TRUE CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY AND HOW EYE COLOR IS DETERMINED. MY CHILD HAS BROWN EYES, HER FATHER HAS BLUE AND I HAVE HAZEL. IT WOULD ANSWER ALOT OF QUESTIONS.

Question: Could you please explain this to me, what exactly is a Paternity Index and what does the above indicate to you? > This is from a paternity test I took part in. Thank you.

Question: if the mother and the father share the same number gene, should the child not inherit that gene too. for example.....mother 29 31.2 child 27 29 alledged father 27 31.2 this same senerio happened on 3 of the 10 areas looked at. the child got one of the genes from each but not the shared gene. should further testing be done?

Question: My mother took my brother's father to court for child support in 1978. A blood test was performed to determine paternity. The results of the test were that it was not possible to establish non-paternity for the father. He never had to pay child support or anything,so I don't know if the case was thrown out (three blood test were taken) or the jury ruled in his favor (I think the whole case was fixed). The results were as follows: > Es-D/EAP/PGM/AK/Pep-A/Hp/Hgb > Dad B ccee MN ss kk Fya-b- 1 A 2-1 1 1 2 A > Mom AB CcDee MN ss kk Fya-b- 1 A 1 1 1 1 A > kid B ccDee MN ss kk FYa-b- 1 A 1 1 1 2-1 A > > Is there anyway you could read these results and tell me what you think? Also, If the result of the test could not determine anything back in '78 if we located a sister of the alledged dad (or another child) would the new test results remain the same or could something be determined? > We have located his dad's side through research, but we would like proof that he is the father(to ease their minds) before we approach them. Also, I was reading some of the other questions. I read about a lady whose baby's dad had passed away (both my brother's parent's are deceased)and it was advised to her to obtain samples from the medical exmainer to get social security payments. Is that possible if the dad died in '96 and the mom in 2000?

Question: My ex and I did a dna test bought online. The company is located in Seattle Wash, but the swabs were mailed to Canada. I have seen where you state that we should only use labs in the US, but my question is this. The samples took 3 weeks from the date I overnighted the samples to them to get us the result. First, could they still be accurate, and second, I have checked the better business bureau and found nothing, but could this company be actually not doing the testing??

Question: My cousin has tested two men as the potential father of her son. Both came back excluded...she swears it is one of them. My question is could these men have done anything to sabotage the results? We believe, obviously there must be at least a third man, but she says different.

Question: When my daughter was born, they told us her blood type was B+. My ex-wife and I are both O+ and all the research I have done says that the only blood type possible for our offspring is O. My wife told me that it is rare, but possible to have . Is this true?

Question: My husband and I have been married over 21 years (been together prior to marriage) and have 2 biological children, one will be 17 and the other daughter just turned 19. I am really tired of the fact that when we get into arguments, it always turns around with him stating that the children are not his. This always happens. Both girls are definitely his children. His responses are that they do not look like him. People that he has never met, alway say how his daughters look like him. One is blonde w/blue eyes, the other has dark hair w/brown eyes. He has dark hair w/blue eyes and I am blonde with brown eyes. I want to get DNA testing done, but I am on social security and do have alot of money, but I need to have this done. We do however have insurance. I will be filing a divorce, because this is no way to live. My girls have problems dealing with this, and has really gone on too long. Please advise.

Question: I know someone that says they had an abortion done at 6wks gestation and had a DNA test done to prove the paternity of the father. I was wondering if this was possible. Wouldn't that be too early and the fetus too small?
    anonymous <withheld>

Question: My last period was 1/21/02, I had sex on 2/5 and 2/9 with two different men. I had a mouth swab dna test for parentage and both came back as not the father! How can that be? Aren't dna mouth swab tests 99.9% accurate? What can I do to get an accurate test. Both men think they are off the hook and won't submit again for another test.

Question: Ok, my husband had an affair back in November. He received a phone call on Christmas day to let him know that she was pregnant. A few weeks later, he decided to work on our marriage and end things with her. The only contact she had with him was asking for money to have an abortion. When he did get a hold of her she told him the pregnancy had ended (whether by miscarriage or abortion, I am unclear). We figured that was the end of it. A couple of days ago, he received a phone call from her that she had a baby and needs help. How can we believe her? We know for a fact that she was constantly partying and drinking. We want to believe it is not his. Could it be someone else's child? What should we do? We are just trying to get our family back in order again.

Question: Message: Hello, I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. My LMP was around October 15, 2003 and I had completely unprotected sex with my husband on around the 21 and on the 31 of October. During this time I was also intimate with another male but did not have any unprotected sex at all and no sex around the times I had sex with my husband. I delivered a healthy full term child on July 16, 2004. The other guy says he wants a paternity test done when I feel it is clear that the child is not his, the dates don't match to me at all and we were incredibly careful. Also, I have other children by my husband and this child looks EXACTLY the same as them, there is just no doubt and I think this guy is just harrassing me. Do I hvae to give him a test, I want him to get away from me. If I refuse, what are the chances a court will force the test? Thanks

Question: Hi, and thank you so much for taking the time to look over my question! I am 34 weeks pregnant and my due date is September 14, 2004. I have been with my husband for 6 years now and I cheated on him with another man on November 16, 2003. I did have my period in the first week of December, and found out I was 8 weeks pregnant on February 4, 2004. My due date is September 14, 2004, and my doctor is using December 9, 2003 as my LMP. Please tell me who is most likely to be the father of my baby, my husband or the other man? Just for peace of mind. Thank you so much.

Question: I recently found out that my boyfriend may be the father of 2 children with 2 different mothers. Paternity tests have never been done and only 1 of the mother's has filed for support. There are possible other fathers for both of these children. He now owes back-child support now on this child. What I want to know is if a) he starts making child support payments and we find out that the child is not his, what will happen to that money, and b) how can we go about getting paternity done in the state of Kentucky when we live in California and have had no contact with these women in almost 5 years? He needs to find out if he is the father and he is willing to take responsibilty if he is, but how do we start?

Question: A family member who was adopted as a infant has recently located her biological mother's family and is trying to determine who her father is. A possible father and the adoptee submitted samples to different labs and the results came back inconclusive. They were told additional testing would still be inconclusive. Does this mean he is unlikely to be the father? The mother is deceased and never identified the father to her family.

Question: I am the alleged father, this woman named only me and she knows I'm not the father, We both have dark brown eyes and the baby has gray eyes like his sister and her father----the test came back making me the father, I noticed that the speciment numbers on the lab are out of sequence, the baby and mother's numbers are 57 and 58 and mine is 91, we took the test togetherso, i think the test was compromised and it happened at the court.

Question: A paternity test was performed using another lab. The following alleles shared markers ...D3S1358, THO1, D21S11, D18S51, D5S818, D13S317, D7S820, D16S539, CSF1PO, vWA, D8S1179, TPOX, FGA, and Amelogenin. The result was 99.99%, but the scientist stated that he couldn't get all the alleles when trying to test for the 3rd time but he thought he had enough to render a result. I have read that 2 exclusions can represent an exclusion. If he didn't get them all, might the test be nonconclusive? Is this possible in this case? Thank you!

Question: How do I know if the DNA labs on the internet offering free test kits and/or reduced priced results are actually going to give accurate test results? Is there something to look for or a lab you could recommend? I don't need the results for court, just to ease my daughter's father's mind, as people keep commenting that she looks like a different race than either of us are.

Question: I recently received the results of a DNA test (negative). The 2 people being tested are located in two different states. The test kits were mailed out via FEDEX to the separate locations and individually done (at home, not witnessed, not legally binding), and returned. After the swab test was completed they were set on top of a desk and a fan was blowing towards the swabs, with the intention to dry them before re-packaging for shipment. Would the air moving from a fan, in a closed room, have the ability to contaminate the swabs, or attach fine particles of another persons DNA to the swab?

Question: ATTENTION: Hows about I ask a legal question
    anonymous <withheld>

Question: Because one of your brothers is the father and being a twin is not a reason for shirking responsibilty. There was precedent for this type of situation in a court in Virginia--Man came into the court thinking he could evade support and of course DNA could not determine the father so the Judge ordered the child support to be split BETWEEN the two brothers. Hope that answers your question.

Question: ********** conducted a paternnity test on 10/29/93. The results of the DNA are: D10SB (Mother-1.83) (Child 1.83) (Father 3.78) TBQ7/HAEiii (Mother 1.08) (Child 1.53) (Father 1.53) Probability of Paternity 99.15% It's my understanding that there are at least 16 markers that should be tested to establish paternity. If all markers from the father match the child markers, then you cannot be excluded, however, if one marker does not match your excluded. How can paternity be established when the father is only tested for two markers (when infact there are 16 testable markers) and that those markers do match the child?

Question: I have a question I hope you can answer. I have never had a close relationship with the woman I have believed to be my mother. One day when my dad was in the hospital, he needed a blood transfusion and I found out he had type A positive blood. Just out of curiosity, I wondered what my blood type was. My mom got very defensive when I asked her if she knew. She told me basically that it didn't matter. Later on when I had my first child, i found out that i have type O positive blood. I thought about that conversation again with my mom and thought she must have the same blood type as me. I asked her about it again and again, she got very defensive and said what does it matter because i am your mother. i was telling someone in my family about this and was told that she was not my mother. In some ways, i was shocked but then thought about the realtionship that she and i had over the years. I always felt like an outsider. How can i find out the truth?

Question: I have a friend who is being forced to pay support on a child that he has no proof is his because he was married the the child was born and refused a DNA test. He knew his wife was having an affair and the judge blocked him from getting a DNA test for proof. Is there any way around this? He just wants to know if the child is his or not. I know Michigan was working on bills that would allow men to stop paying if it was proven they were not the father but it is different when you were married when the child was born. Question: If someone has sex one time between Aug.24-Sept. 12,1997 and the child was born July 3, 1998, Could this be possible? Within those dates?
    anonymous <withheld>

Question: My question is one of time frame. I am currently 7mos pregnant and the father of the child has now re-entered my life. He questions the paternity because I had advised him that I was with another man the month prior. The dates are as follows- On Nov. 30, 2003 I was with another man, my last LMP was 12-15-03. I then had relations with the father of my unborn child sometime during the week of dec. 23. I took a pregnancy test the second week of Jan. and came up positive. I advised him that there is no chance that the unborn child could be the result of my Nov. encounter, but yet he questions paternity. Is there still options of having a paternity test this late in the pregnancy or is it best to wait after?, also can the test be done at the time of birth of the baby or is it best to wait until the child is a couple of weeks older? In my mind I am 100% sure that he is the father, but he has that one doubt because of the prior month.

Question: My girlfriend was with another guy 1 time, it was protected sex and he didn't come. She was with me everyday for over a year and I always came in her. She was on the pill but had missed taken it alot. We had a Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test done by ***********, they took her blood samples and seperated the baby's dna cell from it and compared it to a swab test from my mouth. They said I was excluded as being the father. She says theres no way that i'm not the father. We've since heard some people say that the accuracy of that tes isn't good. Any opinions on that test?

Question: I keep reading and hearing conflicting answers to the question 'who pays for a paternity test'? I'm in MA and read that (for children born out of wedlock) that the Department of Revenue would cover the cost if it's the mother bringing the suit. I've also read that the father would have to reimburse them if the test is positive that he's the father. I was also told by a lawyer since I was the mother and the one bringing the suit, that I would have to come up with the money. And then, once I brought the suit (with a lawyer) the judge advised the father to get the test and it was "his understanding" that DOR doesn't really seek reimbursement. Yet when I sent DOR an email, they said they would absolutely seek reimbursement. For the life of me, I can't figure out who's responsibility it would be to have to pay for the test...do you know??? And if you do know, would you know how much it would cost?

WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH SOME VERY ROCKY TIMES LATELY AND DURING ONE ARGUMENT SHE SAID SOMETHING REGARDING OUR CHILD THAT ALARMS ME. I HAVE HAD MY SUPISCIONS ALL ALONG. MY QUESTION IS WHO HAS TO BE PRESENT FOR A DNA TEST. CAN IT JUST BE MY SON AND I TO DETERMINE THE RESULT, OR DOES MY GIRLFRIEND HAVE TO BE PRESENT ALSO? OR IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I GET A TEST DONE BY MYSELF TO DETERMINE THE RESULT? I GUESS WHAT IM REALLY TRYING TO ASK IS CAN I GET A TEST DONE WITHOUT HER HAVING ANY KNOWLEDGE OF IT OR GETTING INVOLVED?

Question: I'm Caucasian and I thought the alleged father was Italian. However, we just got the DNA test back at 99.98% and it says that the alleged father is Hispanic. And based on comparison with the North American Hispanic population, the alleged father can not be excluded. Now, I always knew he was the father, but, since he wants nothing to do with this child, is it possible that he could ask the courts for another DNA test based on him stating that he is not Hispanic? He is trying his best to get out of paying child support. Also, is 99.98% legal standard? I know others who have gotten 99.99% back.

Question: What is the possible range of Conception for a July 4th due date
    anonymous <withheld>

Question: I am trying to decipher who the father of my baby is. On July 7th my HCG level was 65, and my last period started between June 1 and 4. Question: can dhr in alabama have a paternity test done without you the mother signing for it?
    anonymous <withheld>

Question: The father of my child is requesting a paternity test (ordered through the court) and we are waiting to have it done. My daughter is 3years old and there's absolutely NO possibility of her being anyone else's child. I was just kind of wondering what percentages it could come back as? Since he's absolutely the father, would it by any way come back 100% or is 99.9% the highest? And even though he IS the father, is it possible the test would come back too low to prove he is the father(in court)?
    anonymous <withheld>

Question: (Obviously I'm getting a little nervous over the paternity test ordered between me, my daughter, and the father.) I've noticed a lot of the questions about numbers and percentages (among other words I don't know included on a paternity test). Since the court ordered a paternity test to be done and I KNOW the father IS DEFINITLY the father, I was just wondering how difficult the end test results are going to be to read? From what I'm reading it's not going to be cut and dry (like he IS or ISN'T the father) but more like a probability. I was wondering if the results were going to be difficult to understand with different numbers and such or if they might summarize it into something like "the probability is xxx"?

Question: Hi, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter 3/9/87. My due date was 3/10. I was pretty sure the 1st day of my LMP was 5/31, as I told the doctor. The first doctor I went to tested me in the office on 6/30 and it came back negative. The doctor was pretty insistant that I was not pregnant, but I felt I was, so she sent it out to be tested at the lab which came back positive. I was with my ex-boyfriend on 5/5 and 5/8 (this 2nd one is when I got paranoid he didnt withdraw quick enough). NOW, Back in the middle of May I was out, got drunk and went with some guy (which I do not know at all) and do not remember what happened. How possible is it that the unknown guy could be the father? I remember my girlfriend telling me my 5/31/86 cycle may have not been a real one. I am nervous about having a test done without knowing the complete possibilities of both guys. Thanks for your help, Y ps. by the way, my daughter was a perfect little 7lb, 3oz, 20-1/2" long and healthy as could be from day one. She is my angel and I have 3 boys (9, 3, and 1) since 1987. Again, thanks for your help.

Question: My husband was contacted by a girl he had dated 16 years ago stating he was the father of her daughter who is now 15. Another man that she tricked into thinking was the father questioned paternity when the child was 2 and was tested. His test came back 89.9% that he could be the father, but according to this woman, the State of Missouri does not recognize paternity of it comes back less than 90% so he left. Now she has contacted my husband and we are requesting paternity as well, however, all the tests that I have researched designate that it's either 0% (exclusion)or at least 99% (inclusion), how did they get 89.9% and is there still a chance that my husband could come back at a lower percentage rate than this other guy and be excluded or is this other guy automatically excluded if he wasn't 99%? She claims there was only two men in her life during this time. Not all of the pieces are adding up. She was born on May 23, 1989 with a due date of May 19, 1988. Any ! advise is appreciated.

Question: I have been involved with my boyfriend for 2 1/2 years now. For a period of one month in October of 2002 we split up and during the break up i slept with one other man numerous times during that month. The last time i slept with the other man was October 31, 2002. I found out that i was pregnant in January and when i went to the doctor they told me that I conceived during or around the week of November 14th of 2003 so i assumed that they were correct and my boyfriend and i had our baby boy on September 2nd, 2003. The other man swears up and down that my son is his baby and in fact, they do look quite similar. Also, i looked at the conception calander on your website and they dated my conception for December 10th so i am very confused and afraid that the doctors may have made a mistake and i really conceived earlier than what they told me. My now ex-boyfriend has signed the birth certificate and believes in every way possible that is his son.

I took the test; the lab has my photo and fingerprints on file from when I took the test the first time. What are the possibilities that my test will come back different? Once again I took the first test, and I took the second test also.
