The law offices of Edwin C. Schilling III, P.C. concentrates in advising domestic relations lawyers, members, spouses and retirees nation-wide on the division and valuation of pensions incident to divorce. He has assisted in over 2200 cases in all 50 states. As an active duty Judge Advocate, Colonel Schilling adjudicated over 6,000 cases involving the division and garnishment of military retired pay and federal civil service pay.

Edwin Schilling has given numerous nationwide presentations on dividing and valuing pensions, including Continuing Legal Education programs sponsored by various state Bar Associations and organizations (including Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Montana, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia) and the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Certified Family Law Specialists of California, and Professional Education Systems, Incorporated. He has also testified as an expert witness in over 95 cases in over 26 jurisdictions across the nation, and his valuations have been used by counsel in over 30 jurisdictions. In 1995 his valuation methodology of valuing two pensions was upheld by the Alaska Supreme Court.

As part of his 20-year career in the Air Force, Colonel Schilling served as the judge advocate representative to the Air Force team in 1981 that prepared draft legislation and testimony for Senate hearings during the legislative process that culminated in the passage of the Uniformed Services Former Spouses' Protection Act (USFSPA). He was also Associate Professor of Law, Department of Law, United States Air Force Academy and Director, Air Force Legal Assistance and Preventive Law Programs.

In April, 1990 he testified before Congress on behalf of the American Bar Association concerning proposed amendments to federal pension legislation.

Edwin Schilling is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Alaska, Colorado and Louisiana Bar associations. He served as an Executive Member of the Federal Legislation and Procedures Committee of the ABA Family Law Section, and as Chairman of the Military Retired Pay Subcommittee. He is a graduate of the College for Financial Planning, and is a Certified Financial Planner™ licensee. He was on the faculty of the Institute for Certified Divorce Planners where he taught attorneys, CPAs, CFP™ licensees and CDPs the essentials of dividing and valuing pensions in divorce.

Edwin is admitted to practice in Alaska, Colorado and Louisiana and before the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Military Appeals, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, United States Court of Claims and United States Tax Court. He received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Physics from Baylor University, and his law degree from Louisiana State University Law School, where he was Associate Editor of the Law Review and inducted into the Order of the Coif.
