DivorceNet Firsts:

DivorceNet's roots are in the first consumer-friendly newsletter covering divorce, the Family Law Advisor® (FLA) published by the Law Offices of Sharyn T. Sooho. In 1994 we uploaded the FLA to the Massachusetts government section of America Online (AOL). We believe that these were the first family law materials posted on AOL.

By the spring of 1995 it became apparent that the FLA didn't get adequate exposure on AOL which, at the time, did not understand the potential market for divorce-related resources. In response, we launched DivorceNet in May, 1995.

DivorceNet and its founders created the first:

• Family Law e-zine (1994)
• National divorce Internet resource (1995)
• Divorce lawyer directory (early 1996)
• Divorce site linked from the Library of Congress (now it is still only one of two)
• Private divorce site linked from the American Bar Association's website.

DivorceNet has always been an innovator in adapting existing technology to law-related uses. It was the first:

• Legal site with interactive bulletin boards (early 1996)
• Legal site with lawyers moderating bulletin boards, answering questions for free.
• Legal site with chat (late 1996)
• Site of any kind with interactive child support guideline worksheets (1995)
• Site of any kind to offer genetics experts answering paternity questions
• Law site (via FamLawLit) to email a free digest of law review articles (1997)
• Law site with a bulletin board designed exclusively for lawyers listed on the website (1997)
