ARNOLD H. RUTKINMr. Rutkin has been practicing law for over thirty years, over which time he has developed an unprecedented level of expertise in dealing with complex and sensitive personal and financial situations. Mr. Rutkin brings that experience plus a vast knowledge of the law, the courts and the practical aspects of the litigation process to his handling of domestic relations matters. Mr. Rutkin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1961 and earned his L.L.B. at Boston University School of Law in 1964. During that time he has repeatedly been recognized for his expertise and excellence in the area of family law, being elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has regularly lectured and presented programs on domestic relations issues to the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association and other organizations. In 1987, he was named by a National Law Journal Survey as one of the best matrimonial lawyers in the United States, and is included in Best Lawyers in America. In 2003 he was named as one of the 10 Best Family Lawyers in America by Worth Magazine. As part of his commitment to improving the practice of family law, Mr. Rutkin served from 1987-1997 as the Editor in Chief of the Family Advocate, the nationally acclaimed publication of the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association. He is the founder of the Connecticut Family Lawyer. Mr. Rutkin is the general editor of the four volume treatise, Family Law and Practice, used as the basic reference source by family lawyers all over the country. He is co-author of Connecticut Family Law and Practice, a three volume work, published by West Publishing, which has become the basic handbook for judges and attorneys dealing with domestic relations matters in Connecticut and has been cited by the Appellate Court and the Supreme Court of Connecticut.
SARAH STARK OLDHAMMs. Oldham has more than 25 years experience working with families in Connecticut. Since 1988 she has specialized in matrimonial law, helping clients address the financial and tax consequences of divorce while recognizing the psychological impact of the process on those involved. At Rutkin and Oldham she handles all types of domestic relations matters, including dissolutions of marriage, custody and visitation proceedings, and post-judgment matters. Ms. Oldham holds a J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law (1988) where she was a member of the Law Review, an M.S. in School Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University (1974) magna cum laude, and a B.S. cum laude in psychology from Wesleyan University (1972) in Middletown, Connecticut. She is a member of the Connecticut and American bar associations and is currently Chair of the Family Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. KATHLEEN A. HOGAN, Of CounselMs. Hogan has been practicing law since 1977, and is admitted to practice in New York, Colorado and Tennessee, as well as Connecticut. This enables her to draw on knowledge, resources and contacts far beyond the local area for the benefit of the firm and its clients. For over 21 years she has practiced law in Connecticut with Mr. Rutkin. During that time she has focused her practice on increasingly complex family law matters, including both custody issues and sophisticated financial matters. A significant portion of her practice has been and continues to be focused on family law appeals to the Appellate and Supreme Courts of Connecticut. As a result the firm accepts referrals of appellate issues from other family law practitioners, as well as handling appellate matters for its own clients. Ms. Hogan received her B.A. from the College of Santa Fe in 1973 and her J.D. in 1977 from University of Tennessee where she was the Associate Editor of the Tennessee Law Review. Ms. Hogan is the co-author of Connecticut Family Law and Practice, a three volume work which has become the basic handbook for judges and attorneys dealing with domestic relations matters in Connecticut.
