Hi All,

I was in court on May 5, 2009 for a child support trial. I had filed papers on 3/8/08 and it took over a year to get to trial. I have been waiting for over six months now for a judgment. Does anyone know how long this usually takes and what, if anything, can I do to get the judge to issue a judgment? Thanks for any help!

That is a long time to wait. You need to contact the court or your attorney.

Usually when they can't find the file it's because it's sitting on someone's desk (the judge or their clerk). What you will need to do is go down in person and they will have to look it up. (Don't go around 9ish or after 3:30 though. They aren't the most accommodating & have signs all over the place about being short staffed because of cuts, etc., etc. If you go around 9, you're going to be in a line with the lawyers who will preferential treatment. If you go after 3:30, you'll get attitude because they don't want to have to wait on someone that close to quitting time!) They can pull up your file on the computer and it will have a list of the dates and anything that has been done (filing a motion, trial date, whatever). There is no excuse for you having to wait that long to get an answer on child support! Most times they just plug in the numbers and voila!
