Just because you pay someone child support, it does not give them the right to know about your financial business!
Last year I lost my job of 10 years to a person overseas. With the economy the way it is, it took me 3 months to find another job. During my time out of work we never missed a child support payment to my husbands ex-gf.
Our house payment got behind two months and when this happens (in case anyone wants to know), the mortgage company will not accept a payment for the current month unless it is for the entire amount past due. For the last 9 months we've been trying to get a loan modification. The mortgage company jerked us around majorly. Every other week they wanted more pay stubs and more bank statements. During this, they were bought by another mortage company which made us have to start the process all over. Finally they said that we didn't qualify for a loan modification because my job is not a permanent job. I had to take a job as a contractor (like a temp to hire deal). They referred us to HUD. We called HUD and were given a credit counselor who specialized with working with the mortgage company. For three months we waited and continued to send them more pay stubs and more bank statements. THEN we get a notice in the mail of a court date to sell our house.
At that point we had no other option but to file chapter 13 bankruptcy in order to keep our house.
Now to get to my point...
Because we pay DHs ex child support, she was considered a creditor and therefore got a copy of EVERYTHING that the other creditors received. She now knows all of our debt and how much a month we have to pay to keep our house.
Here's my debate. Since obviously you can't file bankruptcy on child support, WHY is the receiver of the child support entitled to my personal business?
