hello, I am getting divorced in california.....my lawyer went to a new law firm, and I followed her. I received my invoice with this new law firm...they are charging me $60 for Drafting the Retainer Agreement and $105 for Drafting Substitution of Attorney.......can they charge me for either of these contracts.......I have also noticed they have charged me for services I have already completed example subpoena my husbands work records........
I am not happy at all with this law firm...is there anyway I can let them go and perhaps get my retainer back.....my settlement conference is in the middle of November and I am thinking maybe it would be wiser if I cut my loses any go back to my original law firm

Most people burn through $2500/month via their attorneys during a divorce. You are free to fire or drop them at anytime. But, a new attorney, if any issues are contested, will typically want $5000 up front, and the average contested divorce is $30K each. $165 will pay for about 35 minutes of "lawyer time" where I live.

my question is can a lawyer charge you a $60 for the retainer contract. TIS IS THE CONTRACT ITSELF
a contract stipulates what fees would be charged for services rendered. This law firm charged me $60 for the contract itself and $105 becasue I revised it to say the non-refundable should be $5000 instead of their original $7500

From what I've seen, it's difficult to contest attorney charges.

thank younfor replying.....I know it will be difficult to contest attorney charges.....but this new law firm is making work up to charge me......I followed my lawyer here and I regret it.
I will contest the charges.....but I would like to know has anyone else been charged for signing the retainer....usually the contract itself is free of charge......
