This week, I am going to court with a Jackson County litigant who tried to "do it herself" with the pro se forms. She ran into so many pitfalls that it has been almost a year and she still has not gotten divorced nor does she get child support.

I caution everyone: If you want to represent yourself, that's your choice. But think of this: Would you take your own gall bladder out?

There are many pitfalls to representing yourself. My current client found out the hard way that there is a reason to pay an attorney to help you, even if you're smart and capable.

It's a risky business.

So. . . take care. You can cause yourself more problems than you realize.
