My divorce was final Nov '08, and my ex-wife moved out of state with our 5 yr old son Jan '09. I cannot afford more attorney fees but need to change the parenting time schedule, and reduce child support. She still has it set up as if I get him every other weekend and one night a week. I am also paying about 50% of my income in child support, so can barely afford any living expenses, let alone travel to see him. Any advice from others with similar experiences would be appreciated. I just want to be able to see my son and pay for living expenses. Does anyone know if it's normal in Michigan to be ordered to pay the max allowable child support as well as half the daycare bill?

I assumed you must file with the court asking for modifications since she moved out of state and made it unrealistic to excercise the original schedule. You should arrange in such a way that it will be accepted by the judge and her. As for CS, I doubt if it will be reduced except she will have to share the cost of half way. I'm not sure daycare cost is included in CS but in general, it's not and parents have to share as part of "extraordinary" expenses.

:( One of the factors that encourage reduced child support for NCP's is the amount of parenting time the parent spends with their child. I don't see how her move will factor into a reduction, although you might have other reasons to apply for it.

There is no way to change the parenting plan without it being filed through the courts. The way it is set up is the minimum parenting time and your child support at 50% appears to already be based on that. I wouldn't try to revoke anymore of your time. What you can do though, is try to file for changes in visitation as in making her responsible for all your visitation including transportation when you are actually able to use your time.
