Yep, I was served Friday. The wife wanted it done Tursday but the marshall was out of town and she was pissed. She called and from what the marshall said she was very bitchy about it.
So.....what now?
She was wanting to do a do-it-yourself divorce but I'm not sure if we'll be able to agree on things.
I have been looking around online for information or advise to save my ass but you know how the internet is you don't know what to beleive most of the time.
I have two boys, a house, household goods and not much money. Any input or advise would be great.....1st time divorce
Thanks,
Dave

What resources are available to help with a pro se divorce?

You may obtain the “Do It Yourself Divorce Guide” from any family court in
Connecticut. This book contains all the necessary forms for you to fill out.
Occasionally there are classes offered in Connecticut to help with pro se divorce. To
see if there is a class near you, call CWEALF, Infoline, or the nearest Legal Aid office.
You may also ask the Clerk at the court for a referral.

www.jud.ct.gov/Publications/fm179.pdf

The link above provides a publication of everything you need to know and do for a do-it-yourself divorce. I would visit the same county family court that would be handling your divorce, pick up the brochure in print from them and inquire of any questions you may have.

Tali tends to recommend books by Nolo Press. I've never read any. I would recommend finding out what your ex wants. If you can come to an agreement between the two of you, have an attorney draw it up and file it. It will cost you a few hundred dollars, but it will be done correctly.

Hmmm, my return date is 10-21 which is next Tuesday, no later than two days after the return date?? She gave me 3 pages 20, 21 & 23 "Responding to a Divorce" I think those pages came from the fm179.....not sure.
So, I just downloaded the above fm thank you so much for that info. I work alot and it would have been difficult to make it to the Clercs office on a normal day.
You know what's funny? I have vacation days to use or loose so I used one vacation day on the 3rd. I told her I was going out of town for the weekend, the day she filed was the 3rd....I guess she was mad that I didn't take her with me.
Well it looks like I have reading to do and look into the pro se divorce class, I never knew there was such a class, again "Thank You"
The CWEALF "Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund" is this the CWEALF you refered to? I was confused for a second....but you are correct, I just looked at the website.
Thanks again for the information I'm going to go read now.

You're welcome Dave. I'm actually familiar with NY courts, but I was curious if do-it-yourself was even an option with children involved, so I googled.

I should have highlighted and noted that the information above the link was a cut and paste from the website, so I wasn't immediately aware what CWEALF stood for.

I think its great that CT courts offer the informational brochure, forms, and referrals to court and other assistance.

All these services the court centers offer, pretty cool:
Court Service Centers Resources and Services

* Statewide Calendar and Docket Information (Civil and Family cases)
* Court Forms and Judicial Publications
* Public Use Computers and Printers with Internet Access and Word Processing
* Electronic Filing
* Printers
* Copier
* Fax Machine
* Phone
* Work Space
* Staff Assistance
* Notary Public Services
