We established this board in order for the free exchange of information among those who suffered from Hurricane Katrina. Part of the rebuilding process will include the reopening of local family courts. While this may time some time, we hope that judges, court clerks and court administrators share whatever information they have. Also, we encourage the public to ask questions and help one another during this difficult time.

The http://www.ivwcc.org a businesswomen's organization has organized support for Katrina victims. It's mostly for help with businesswomen who have been put out by the hurricane, but it's still a resource. Contact Jerrilynn Thomas for more info.

Does anyone know a website to go onto to volunteer to host a family that was displaced due to the hurricaines?

I don't remember where I read it so can't vouch for it's truth, but I saw somewhere that there may be a special tax item passed allowing a personal deduction of $500, I think, for people housing a hurricane victim for 60 days or more.

Bottom right corner, click link under Learn More. That page will provide a list of links under Housing Locators. At the bottom of list is a link Open Your Home. I haven't checked the other links yet.

Should we consider modifying the name of this post to "Disaster Legal Issues"? Hurricaine Katrina has passed us by but we have new problems all the time, like Hurricaine Ike.. and how about those affected by 9/11? This forum gets very little activity, but I think it might benefit from a little topic expansion?
