My wife are divorcing and we have agreed on all terms We have no children. Found a lady that said she would do our paperwork of $250 and I just needed to give her the basic information. When I did, she went up to $350. The $250 sounded steep to begin with and now the $350 seems way out just to type up some paperwork. I am wondering if there is another way or if I'm getting ripped off or if it's just best to let her do it so there are no mistakes.

You're getting a bargain, assuming she's a paralegal. Do your research on her background and with the Better Business Bureau. A contested divorce could cost you anywhere from 3,500 to oh say, even 35,000.

But this is an uncontested divorce. No fault. All she's doing is typing up the paper work. We have to sign it and submit it to the courthouse and pay that fee then get a court date to go before a judge and have him sign off on it.

Well, you can certainly try to find these forms online or keep shopping. If you've already given this woman 250, try to talk her into staying with her original quoted price or returning the money. Then perhaps look on line for a do-it-yourself uncontested divorce.

If it was me, I would probably stay away from the tempting 25 dollar divorce kits and still go with more reputable services who have better guarantees, references, and secure paying sites, within that same 250 range.

$250 is a deal. $350 is a deal quite frankly. A 45 minute conversation with one of my attorneys would run that. Though, I'd probably try to talk to her again about why she went up on her price.

Just for a point of reference, my divorce (which started as contested and ended up being no fault) cost me over 50,000 and took almost 2 years.
