After a long separation, I just filed for divorce. I was very clear with my lawyer that I did NOT want him to take on half the debt and I did not want any property or anything else. Child support is a given whether or not I wanted it, but since DHS is handling that, we left it out of the divorce. My STBX was served today, and there are some problems that I'm pretty upset about. First of all, apparently my petition asks for alimony. It doesn't use that wording- It says that I ask for "ancillary and incidental relief", which I have been told is legalese for "alimony". Yes, I signed the papers saying this, but I didn't know that's what it was. I'm upset. Also, there is a situation stated in the divorce papers which is no longer correct. I notified my attorney, and she obtained my permission to change the papers to reflect the change. I gave her permission. Then, come to find out, the papers that my STBX was served with don't reflect the change. I'm really upset and I know my STBX is probably angry with me for asking for alimony, but I didn't know that is what I was signing, and I didn't question it because I had been so clear that I didn't want anything financial from him. I am going to call my lawyer on Monday, but in the meantime can someone tell me if this can easily be fixed?

I'm also concerned about having to pay for the corrections, even though the error was not mine.

Don't worry about what is in the petition. Folks ask for the moon and the stars in the original petition. What matters is what you settle on.
