It's creepy because it's not something a child would say. Also most people don't talk about themselves in the 3rd person. If my son had said to me I want to be with my father, I would believe it was what he wanted. "A boy needs his father" is the argument my ex would give to me when he couldn't think of a real reason it would be better for our son to live with him.
