My wife and I have mutually decided to separate. There are 2 children, a single income, and very little property, none of it disputed.

Is mediation required for us, or do we simply draw up a basic guideline for child support and file? Are there requirements on who can perform the duties of mediator/what are they?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

I've also noticed that Judges post local rules that require mediation in ALL cases. But if you have nothing to mediate, it seems silly to schedule mediation.

Often, the judge will accept an approved order that the case continue without mediation. Both parties and the attorney sign the order and present it to the judge. Other courts will let the mediators issue the order. Check your local rules.
