What does Wisconsin consider a long term marriage?
I've heard of couples divorcing after 4 or 5 years and everything is divided 50/50 but I'm concerned. I've been married 12 and it's over, but I need guidance.

Length of marriage is not a significant factor when dividing assets. Equitable distribution is what is usually used, and 50/50 is what's probably most common. Assets to separate include home equity, pensions, and all other material items (cars, boats, cash, etc.). Bills can be separated the same (credit cards,etc.). Most assets brought into a marriage are kept by the original owner. For example, if one party owned 5 rental properties before marriage, they would typically still solely own them after. If you have any specific questions feel free to send me a private message.

The length of marriage only impacts the amount and length of the maintenance
award.
